What’s happening: The Office of Housing and Neighborhood Services is now accepting applications for the
Heating & Air Conditioning (HVAC) Program, which offers residents a zero percent interest loan for the replacement or installation of new heating and air conditioning systems for their homes.
Applicants must own their home, it must be their primary residence, and the home must be located within City of Fort Wayne limits. Additionally, applicants must have a household income at or below 80 percent of the Area Median Income, which is approximately $72,000 for a family of four.
The loans will be secured by a mortgage, and repayment will be required through monthly installments over ten years. The process can take up to six months before new HVAC units are installed.
The program is funded by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and is limited.
How to apply: Residents of Fort Wayne can submit applications online on the city’s
Engage website.
Residents who do not have access to the online application portal and would prefer a paper application may call 260-427-8585. They will be asked a series of brief questions and then will be asked to leave their contact information on a voicemail system. A representative from the Office of Housing & Neighborhood Services will call them back in the order the calls are received to determine their eligibility. Residents in need of language assistance should contact Language Services Network at 260-426-6764
Applications are reviewed on a first-completed, first-processed basis. Selected participants are determined on a first-qualified, first-served basis.
Why it’s important: Programs such as the Heating & Air Conditioning (HVAC) Program are meant to encourage the preservation of the city’s current housing stock by assisting with the maintenance of those homes.
