The Foellinger-Freimann Botanical Conservatory began as an idea between two friends. Helene Foellinger, publisher of the News-Sentinel, and Bill Sowers, a local attorney and trustee, often visited gardens around the world together and wanted to share it with Fort Wayne. With the backing of the City of Fort Wayne, the Foellinger Foundation, the Freimann Trust, and Lincoln National Corporation, the Conservatory opened in 1983. Today, the Conservatory has over 25,000 square feet of indoor gardens plus a large outdoor setting to take in. Visit the Showcase Garden with its lush seasonal displays, wander through the Tropical Garden where you will find palms thriving next to the cascading waterfall, or enjoy the dry air of the serene Desert Garden. Winding pathways feature hidden spaces and quiet areas that will allow you to explore and relax. Found in the heart of downtown Fort Wayne, this is a perfect place to enjoy a book, take a walk, or plan a trip with kids. The Conservatory invites you to escape the turbulence of daily life and explore a garden state of mind with the current exhibit "Present Tense, Future Calm”. This exhibit will help you pause, relax, and reflect. Also, make sure to enjoy a cup of coffee at Conjure Coffee! #PlacesofNEI
