PHOTOS: Monday Mendings encourages sustainability

On the third Monday of the month, a small community of menders gathers with the goal of being more sustainable. Instead of throwing away garments, they work to mend and preserve items such as jeans, blankets, dog toys, socks, sweaters, and more.

When the group gathers, they share mending techniques and learn best practices. It is a time set aside to repair garments, but also to connect with like-minded individuals.

“Monday Mendings is a free community event,” Burton says. “All are welcome. The goal of Monday Mending is to teach others how to mend their clothing themselves. We aren't mending garments for you – it is a time to set aside to learn to modify/mend/repair your item yourself.”

Monday Mending meets on the third Monday of the month in the West Hall of Electric Works from 6:30 to 8 p.m. The group does not meet in June or July.
