Kristin moved to Fort Wayne three years ago with her husband, Joe. She is a licensed attorney in Indiana working in impact investing. A mother of two boys, she grew up with a heart to change the world. She has used her unique journey to Northeast Indiana as a compass on how to approach life here through abundance and not scarcity. “Impact investing is a huge umbrella that encompass a lot but my focus is investing in transformative solutions to systemic problems. An example of a systemic issue is access to justice. One parallel between impact investing and access to justice is that any product, service, or institution meant to benefit society is meaningless if everyone can’t access it. We want to continue to move the needle so that everyone can benefit from from the best of our community. If something is unjust for even 1% of the population than it’s not really justice. In my previous job, I was working with some of the wealthiest people in the country and they were only moving a mile an hour. Here in Northeast Indiana, a lot of the corporations like Ambassador Enterprises, Sweetwater, and Parkview are doing big things in philanthropy and impact investing. Our corporate investing in Northeast Indiana is five years ahead of the rest of the country. I feel like I have the best of both worlds here. I can afford a great work-life balance while I am doing some of the most innovative philanthropy and investing work in the country. I was in college for seven years and focused on Russian Studies, History, Geology, Performing Arts, English, Music Composition and Arts Management before obtaining my Juris Doctorate at law school. I was in college for so long because I was trying to please other people. Now I know who I am and I feel like I can make the biggest impact in Northeast Indiana. There’s so much to love here and the people here are accessible. Fort Wayne has the hospitality of the south with the humility of the Midwest. People here really love where they live and want to make it a better place. Fort Wayne welcomed me with open arms the way no one ever has and I feel really grateful for it. I plan on spending the rest of my life here.” #PeopleofNEI
