Aung, 23 and Richy, 20 are cofounders of Omega Brand, a Fort Wayne based film group that is continuing to expand. Aung was born in Thailand and has lived in Fort Wayne since he was five. He graduated from South Side High School and has been in college for pre-med, nursing, and then will finish a masters program. Richy has lived in Fort Wayne since he was three. He graduated from Northrop High School and is a bio major with a focus on business. Aung and Richy met through their love of breakdancing and entrepreneurship, and they both share a common bond of being Asian American and Burmese. They are both first generation Americans living in northeast Indiana. Aung - “My parents came from Thailand to get away from the resistance. Fort Wayne is known in the Burmese community as a place of refuge. It was the place to be with so many friends and family ending up here, but I remember when downtown Fort Wayne had nothing to offer us. We used to take cardboard downtown and find a space to just dance. I love that northeast Indiana is now expanding and allowing creative people to shine. Fort Wayne Dance Collective welcomed us in and we did classes. They have become family. It reminds me to let my creative side come back out. For so many years I have been talking about success; I want to bring those ideas to fruition especially in northeast Indiana. We love making Fort Wayne look nice in our videos.” Richy - “I started as a breakdancer. I have amazing mentors and have booked gigs from LA to NYC. I’ve assisted in everything from choreography to music videos. Being an entrepreneur started young for me. My parents have owned a number of different businesses in the region since I was young. I was that typical Asian boy always around the family business helping with paperwork. It’s why I have that entrepreneur drive and I have definitely seen northeast Indiana grow for entrepreneurs. It’s insane how much it’s growing. No matter where I go, I always have love for 260. I always rep it. Don’t be afraid to fail. Don’t forget your passions, especially for minorities. Don’t let it keep you from doing what you really love.” #PeopleofNEI
